Healthy Bran Muffins and ideas of healthy snacks

You or your child can not drink enough water.  I find that water consumption is at a minimum in the winter months but, it is necessary to drink water. It keeps us hydrated, flushes our bodies of toxins and fat and it keeps the cells healthy.

For many people it is hard to decipher between boredom and hunger, it is best first to drink a glass of water and wait 15 minutes, keep active so boredom does not set in. If hunger still persists, then it is the time to have a healthy snack.

Examples of healthy snacks are as follows:

Low fat yogurt with a serving of fruit

Red bell pepper strips with hummus

Bran muffin/glass of skim milk, almond milk or soya milk

An apple with 1 oz low fat cheese

1 slice whole wheat bread topped with a slice of mozzarella and two slices of tomato/broil optional

Amish bran muffins

41/2 cups lour

5tsp baking soda

2tsp salt

2 tsp allspice

3 cups sugar

4 eggs

1 cup oil

2 tsp. vanilla

4 cups(1quart) buttermilk

1(20 oz) box raisin bran

Mix all ingredients togethers; batter will be lumpy. Fill muffin cup 2/3 full or tin and bake for 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Batter can be kept refrigerated for up to 6 weeks. Bake 30-35 minutes.

Varieties

Blue berries and bananas= divide batter in half and use only half, use the other half plain or for another variety. Add 3 mashed bananas and 2 cups blueberries.

Pear ginger= Use half of batter, add 11/2 tsp of ginger powder and 2 cups small diced pears(3 small ripe pears)These make healthy snacks that both adults and children will enjoy.

Recipe borrowed from Dining on a Dime- a few changes have been made and varieties added.

Having a good recipe is good but having good ingredients is what makes the dish
