As we watch our children grow, we want to impart on them good eating habits from a young age. These habits are usually form by children emulating parents on their habits so it’s imperative that parents set good examples for children when it comes to eating habits. These formed habits will more or less be part of their lives up until adulthood.
It is important to teach the children healthy eating habits, also how to control the intake of certain food and how to limit them. They should be introduced to a wide variety of foods at an early age in order to make healthy choices.
Children should develop a good relationship with food and not to think of it as the enemy. If a child is not interested in a certain food choice they should not be punished in order to eat it. Take the food away and try to reintroduce it another time. There are different methods to use to get the child to eat foods that they don’t like.
Engage children in the menu planning and meal preparation, this will and added sense involvement and the decision making and they will feel more to eat what they have helped to prepare.
A family that eats together stays together. Make meal time family time. Ensure the family eats together in a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere. Have light conversations and encourage the children express themselves freely about the meal or anything else; this will help them to have a healthy relationship with food.
